Originally known as “Rittenhouse,” the city of Queen Creek developed in 1919 from a railroad stop at the Queen Creek Farms Company formed by C. H. Rittenhouse. The railroad stop was designed to ship goods from the farm to other areas. The name Queen Creek was taken from a creek with the same name that flowed through Queen Canyon.
